Chris Watts
obituary |
Chris passed away on Saturday 26th March 2022 after battling cancer for some
time.
Chris had been a club member since 1996. Chris joined us after sailing with the
London Sailing Project for 30 years and passing his Yachtmaster Offshore in 1990. At
the time he joined us, he as the lighting director for the TV Teletubbies
series
A great skipper and crew companion, Chris had logged up over 25000 miles sailing,
some with his wife Ginny, which included two passages of 2500 nM.
Recently trips with Gordon and the crews on two boats saw them sailing in France ,
Chris as always keeping us up to date with his posts. I’m sure there are many happy
memories for those of you who sailed with Chris over the years. Chris always gave
you the benefit of his experience, not just about sailing but about his other
interests too. He was the dendrologist at the National Trust Tyntesfield site and a
keen walker and photographer, sharing pictures of all the trees, plants and
buildings he encountered.
Apart from club trips, Chris was a great companion on a few of Aremiti's mediterranean passages with Chris and Julia which he much
enjoyed.
We will greatly miss his friendship, knowledge and calm leadership.
