Trip on Spellbinder starting 2011-10-30
Bernard reported on his other Spellbinder trip: October 30 – November 3.
I sailed with Phoenix members Dave Price (skipper), John Shield and Reg Floyd
We had sun and fair winds for the trip from Haslar to Lymington via Wootton Creek for lunch. At Wootton we moored on the same pontoon as the Civil Service SA boat Sea Essay, which Dave skippers.
We overnighted at Lymington Town Quay, and next day had sunny conditions as we went to East Cowes marina, via the Beaulieu River for lunch. We spent the night in East Cowes, with my birthday dinner in the Lifeboat pub.
The weather deteriorated next day when we sailed to Southampton Water (opposite Netley Abbey) for a lunch stop and fuel in the River Hamble, and on eastwards in the afternoon back to Haslar marina, arriving at 17.30 hrs, drenched!
We did a total of 71 nM with one night hour in winds up to F6, gustinh 7. The skipper spotted 37 K on the wind gauge at one point.
