3.5Buoys Club trip to Turkey – report by Bernard Smyth

Two BSA members, Dave Price  and Bernard Smyth  , were together in a Sunsail Odyssey 45.2  on a Buoys Club trip to Turkey in October  . The party of 15 flew to Dalaman from Gatwick and had a 90-minute minibus ride to the base at Netsel marina in MarmarisMap. There was a lack of wind during the week, with a good sail in F3-4 on the Thursday and, ironically, a sail into Marmaris Bay on the return to base. Nevertheless, the three crews in boats chartered from Sunsail had sunny motorsailing visits to little coves and inlets for lunch and a swim each day and had overnight stops in Loryma, Orhaniye, Bozburun, Selimiye, Serçe Bay. Some of the members had hoped to go to Simi but, as it is a Greek island and Sunsail does not “support” yachts leaving Turkish waters, the idea was ruled out. It was decided to get back to Marmaris on the Friday for the annual end-of-trip dinner and clubbing and for the bleary-eyed handback on Saturday morning. The rest of that day was spent shopping and chilling out by the marina pool, despite a half-hearted thunderstorm, the only rain seen on the trip.
