Trip on Cleo starting 2018-10-19
Plymouth – Fowey, October 19 – 21 – report by Alan Howells
Yacht: ‘Cleo ’ Bavaria 34 chartered from Richard Brown
Skipper: Alan Howells . Crew: Chris Swinnerton , Neil Webber , Nigel Alltimes and Stuart Omond
No wind (again!). Following what I’m told was an excellent meal in the Clovelly and a beer in the marina bar we had a leisurely start and did try putting the sail up in the Sound but to no avail. It was clear from comments made by Stuart as we made our forlorn attempt that he is an experienced sailor and doubtless as disappointed as me by the absence of the necessary. There followed a motor to Fowey on a mirror like sea in the warm sunshine.
Town Quay Pontoon has been removed for the winter so we rafted in the middle of a tight but friendly group on the Lifeboat Pontoon. The Lugger provided its usual excellent fare with ample proportions.
Conditions unchanged the following day. Nigel took over the navigation and we anchored a little off the entrance to Looe for a break. None of us had done that before. Nigel continued and brought us safely to the Yacht Haven where we fuelled prior to returning the yacht to Richard.
