We took over the boat in Haslar Marina, Gosport, our first visit here for a long while, so dinner on the first evening was at the Great Wall Chinese restaurant…delicious, as we remembered.
The forecast for the weekend was too peaceful and so it proved. Saturday was a late start and aiming for Cowes. The main was put up but it was a waste of energy so we gently motored to Cowes; the tides were of little use for any other direction. There were lots of old wooden boats on parade on swinging moorings outside the breakwater and against the outside pontoons of the West Cowes marinas together with a rally, so we headed for East Cowes marina and were given a berth at the farthest point from the marina office and the chain ferry (aka floating bridge)!
Late afternoon saw us strolling over to West Cowes and an early dinner at the Anchor and the usual purchase of a lottery ticket. No wind again next day BUT the lottery came up trumps with £90 between the six of us.
We left after a late breakfast and motored back to Haslar – it was so calm we ate a late lunch whilst afloat.
We had no way of saying how the boat sailed but she was very clean and well maintained. We all caught the sun but no wind! 29 miles and £16 of fuel.
