Future Trips
1.1Chris Watts is skippering a week’s charter from Hamble Point on Friday May 17th – 24th. This is fully booked, and paid. The yacht, an Oceanis 423 ‘Gull’ which Chris skippered in 2017, will be available for boarding at 16.00 hrs on Friday 17th May.
1.2Jeff Woolmer is available to skipper weekend sails from May until the summer, and Jerzy Wieczorek will skipper a weekend trip on either July 26 – 28 or August 2 – 4, possibly for three nights. So far some members have expressed interest but we have no confirmed dates. Will anyone who would like to go on any of these please let us know with your preferred dates.
1.3Alan Howells will take another boat handling practice trip later in the year if wanted (see report below with comments by the crew of the one in March).
2.News
2.1First Aid Course. We have arranged a course this year with Brian Howell on Sabrina on next Sunday May 12. The cost will again be only £25 (payable to BSA – we will pay Brian the total due). You may either pay BSA the £25 in advance (account number 40853062, sort code 20-13-34, with reference ‘first aid’) or pay on the day, cash or cheque. Brian is aiming to start at 9.15 am and we should finish at about 4.00 pm. The bar on Sabrina will not be open, so you need to bring refreshments and lunch.
2.2Offer of sailing books. Dave Lloyd has emailed that he has had a clear-out and is offering a number of sailing books to members, free of charge. The books available are shown in a photo attached to Dave’s email. I will forward this to all members who receive the newsletter by email; for those who receive it by post a print of the photo is attached to this newsletter. Dave can be contacted on 01454 773201, email davidlwb@btinternet.com .
2.3Oscarline. Jeff Birkin reported that he has now obtained patents for Oscarline in the USA and Australia, and that there is just one small technical glitch to be sorted before production.
3.Recent trips
Trip reports A reminder that Chris Wallace has asked for all members who provide trip reports to include the type and name of the boat, and the names of all crew, so that the reports can be completely listed and referenced on the website. Photographs sent to webmaster@bristolsailing.org.uk would also be very welcome.
At the April meeting we had reports from Alan Howells on his training trip at Plymouth, and from Becky Goddard on a charter from Lymington for the former ‘Lady Emma’ crew. Ian Collins gave his report held over from the last meeting on a February weekend from Plymouth.
