Future Trips
1.1Phil Steele’s proposed week’s charter from Falmouth starting on Saturday August 30th has had to be cancelled, as we had insufficient crew confirmed by the time of the meting on August 11th.
1.2Phil will skipper a weekend charter on September 26/28th from Plymouth. It will cost about £105 per person, plus fuel, food and mooring. Will those who have confirmed they are going please send a deposit of £50 as soon as possible to the Treasurer, Mrs J R Jenkyn, Edgecliff, 12 Marine Parade, Clevedon, Bristol, BS21 7QS. The boat will not be booked until the deposits are received.
1.3Phil Steele will skipper another weekend charter, this time in the Solent, on October 24 – 26th. There is one place still available for this trip.
1.4Sailing in Thailand next winter. Kate Hubert is organising a trip to Thailand/Malaysia next February. Several members have expressed an interest in this, and Kate will be contacting them soon with details. The flights and charter are expected to cost about £1500. The charter would be 10/14 days either based from Phuket, or a one way charter between Phuket and Langkawi in Malaysia, on one of a range of yachts or cats from 31-50ft.
2.Announcements
2.1Shorebased courses. Details of the autumn and winter courses at the Ridings High School, Winterbourne are now available. These include all the RYA shorebased courses from Day Skipper to Yachtmaster, plus First Aid, Radar, Sea Survival, Diesel Engine and VHF. Anyone interested should contact the centre on 0800 953 0056. 3.Recent Trips
A summary of all trips reported at meetings is given here, or a full report, if available. Members reporting at a meeting are reminded that a full version of the report should be provided, either written or emailed. If this isn’t available, then only a short summary will be given in the newsletter. Full reports will be included with the next newsletter following receipt.
At the August meeting we had three reports about the PASAB – Penzance around Scilly and Back – races on July 23 – 29. Ros Bennet reported on sailing her Cornish Crabber with Gordon, Kate Hubert on the Beneteau 36 skippered by Malcolm Price, and Sue Fowle on the Sigma 38 skippered by Clive Jenkyn. Claire Turner also reported on a cruise on Becca Hayward’s yacht “Lady Emma”. The full PASAB reports follow, and a summary of Claire’s:
