Mike Berry. You will be pleased to hear that Mike says he feels fit and well, despite his chemotherapy, even going to the gym. Mike hopes to come to our August meeting on the 12th.

Future Trips

1.1Alan Howells will skipper a week’s charter to NW France (including the islands of Sein and Molene) on Thursday August 22 – 29. We have been able to book a boat from Falmouth rather than Plymouth, a Beneteau Oceanis 390 from Kernow charters at Mylor Yacht Harbour. This is now fully booked.

1.2Alan Howells and Jeff Birkin will skipper two weekends from Plymouth in late September / early October for boat handling training. Alan will concentrate on handling under sail, and Jeff under power, but other skills will be included such as night pilotage. Alan’s will be Plymouth – based (i.e. going nowhere else) and Jeff’s will be in the Solent. These are not for “leisure” sailing.

1.3A September trip was requested by Alan and Paula Gray at the June meeting, and at the July meeting another 5 crew declared an interest, but we still need a skipper. If we have eight on board then a possibility is the Bavaria 44 ‘Bertie’ from Liberty at Plymouth, a boat recommended by our crew recently – see Don Hirst’s report in the June newsletter.

2.Recent Trips

At the July meeting there were eight sailing reports. Three of these were Mediterranean – based, Peter Wakeling skippered in the Dodecanese, Bob Buchanan in Malta and Sicily, and Julia and Chris Wallace sailed from Seville to Ibiza. These three reports were sent out earlier this month.

The other reports were

June 2 – 14, Jock Playle, Portishead to Ireland.

Bernard Smyth, June 15 – 23, with the CSSA from Plymouth.

Alan Howells, a windy June 21 – 23 in the Solent.

Nick Kinsley, also June 21 – 23 from Plymouth with Malcolm Price.

Brian Adams, July 5 – 7, skippered by Jeff Birkin from Plymouth.
