Future Trips

Alan Howells will skipper a week’s cross-Channel cruise from Plymouth in August, around the late Bank Holiday weekend, Friday August 22 – Friday 29th. This is now fully booked. The first leg will be to St Malo where Jeff Woolmer will join the crew, then possibly to Guernsey. The final payment of £125.50 per person will be due by July 22nd.

1.2After last year’s successful sail and power training weekends Alan and Jeff Birkin will skipper another one of each in the autumn. The first of these will be Jeff’s Solent-based power training weekend, on September 19 – 21, followed by Alan’s sail training on the weekend of October 11 – 12, probably from Plymouth. Most of the crews are confirmed for these, with one or two of those who expressed interest earlier still to confirm dates. Details will be confirmed at the August meeting.

Gordon Ogden and Chris Watts plan to skipper the PYC yacht ‘Spellbinder’ in early November. Let us know at future meetings if you are interested.

News and Notices

Ros Bennet has sent the following information about an adventurous charity sail in which she will be participating in her Cornish Crabber.

I am undertaking a 900 mile passage in my boat, the 24ft Cornish Crabber Demelza, in order to raise money for for–Ethiopia. This is a small, Bristol based charity with no overheads in the UK- 100% of the money raised will go towards providing remote rural villages in Ethiopia with a reliable supply of water.

You can find out more by going onto www.for-ethiopia.com click on ‘Events’ and you will find the Cornish Crabber Challenge – Preparing for the Off! I will be using face-book, twitter and hope to set up a blog as well. We have set up an account for twitter, https://twitter.com/RosBennet# Also face book, https://www.facebook.com/ros.bennet.7

Blog http://cornishcrabberchallengeblog.wordpress.com

If you feel able to donate to the fund raising then you could go to the Virgin giving site,

http://uk.virginmoneygiving.com/RosBennet. Any amount, however small will make a difference.

We begin the expedition on the 2nd of August 2014 and it should be completed by May 2015.

3.Recent Trips

At the June meeting we had reports from Richard Trim on a long weekend from Hamble to Normandy skippered by Jeff Birkin, and from Alan Howells on a weekend trip from Plymouth.

Before these, however, here is evidence of the non-start to Chris and Julia Wallace’s Mediterranean sailing this season, when they arrived to commission their boat after over-wintering at Taranto in Italy. This view of the harbour entrance was forwarded from Chris by Bob Hayes, who also said that ‘Aremiti’ had managed to escape by June 14th and was en route for the island of Korcula in Croatia.
