Future Trips

1.1Alan Howells and Ian Collins will skipper two boats chartered from Richard Brown (ex- Plymouth Sailing School) for 10 days Friday April 26th – Sunday May 5th, from Plymouth to the Channel Islands and Brittany. The boats will be the former PSS Bavarias ‘Phoebe’ and ‘Chloe’. We don’t yet know the charter cost but with a comfortable five aboard it is expected to be £330 - £360 per person. Those who have booked have already paid two instalments of £100.

Two of those who originally booked have had to withdraw so there are two places now available. Will anyone interested please contact Jock or let us know at the next meeting on April 8th.

1.2Chris Watts is skippering a week’s charter from Hamble Point on Friday May 17th – 24th. This is fully booked, and the balance payment of £237 will be due by May 3rd.

1.3Jeff Woolmer is available to skipper weekend sails from April until the summer, and Jerzy Wieczorek will skipper a weekend trip on either July 26 – 28 or August 2 – 4, possibly for three nights. Will anyone who would like to go on any of these please let us know.

2.News

2.1First Aid Course. . Our last RYA first aid course was held on May 21st 2016 which means your certificates will expire in May this year. We have arranged a course this year with Brian Howell on Sabrina on Sunday May 12. The cost will again be only £25 (payable to BSA – we will pay Brian the total due). However, as the RYA will now issue a pack with book and certificate only to accredited training centres, this time we will get a ‘First Aid at Work’ certificate from Brian’s new company ‘First Aid Training Bath Ltd’ which is accepted by the RYA as the syllabus, which includes ‘maritime’ topics such as hypothermia and secondary drowning, meets the RYA requirements. Fifteen of us have booked for this. You may either pay BSA the £25 in advance or pay on the day.

2.2Tom Cunliffe dinner / talk. The Cruising Association has arranged a function to be held at the Hall and Woodhouse restaurant at Portishead Marina on Saturday 13th April. The talk by Tom Cunliffe ‘What Boat/ Where Bound?’ follows tales of pilots in N. Europe and his own adventures in Brazil, Greenland and Soviet Russia. The evening includes a 3-course meal, registration from 19.00, and talk at 19.30. The cost is £35 for CA members, £40 for non-members, but you can book a table for 6 or 8 at the lower member’s price. Booking is on-line at www.theca.org .

Trip reports A reminder that Chris Wallace has asked for all members who provide trip reports to include the type and name of the boat, and the names of all crew, so that the reports can be completely listed and referenced on the website. Photographs sent to webmaster@bristolsailing.org.uk would also be very welcome.

At the March meeting we had a report from Ewart Hutton on the midweek trip on the PYC yacht ‘RelaX’, skippered by Gordon Ogden. Ian Collins sent his apologies for absence and will give his report of a weekend from Plymouth at the next meeting.
