Future Trips
1.1Jerzy Wieczorek has provisionally booked a Bavaria 36 from Solent Yacht Charters at Haslar Marina, Gosport for a midweek charter from Sunday June 26th (nominally at 1800, but could be earlier in the afternoon) to Friday July 1st. The cost will be £185 per person
(including pre-charter 'sanitising' supplement (£50) and BSA security deposit supplement (£5 pp). This charter will start the day after the RtI race, so the Solent should have quietened down by then!
At present we do not have enough interest in this to confirm the booking, so will anyone who would like to book for this charter please let me know as a matter of urgency, or we will have to cancel it.
1.2 Jerzy is also planning a Yachtmaster training trip in September, which will be on a Jeanneau 37 from Hamble Yacht Charter at Mercury Yacht Harbour on the weekend of September 9 – 11. As a Solent high season charter this will cost £190 per person. Jeff Birkin and Dave Lloyd will oversee this. This is potentially fully booked, with some on a reserve list. Final payment is not needed until August 10th, but those who have provisionally booked will now be asked to confirm their places with a first payment of £50.
1.3 As it has proved impossible to obtain a charter for the Helford – lAberWrac’h race on June 25th, and Ian Collins’ new boat ‘Freemalkin’ will not be fully commissioned in time, Ian and Jeff are considering planning for next year. This would give the crew time to get used to handling a wishbone-boom boat with an unstayed mast and no headsail – look online for Freedom Cat Ketch for details. Ian would like to know who would be interested.
1.4 Ian Collins is planning a week’s cruise from Neyland to Ireland starting on September 12th. This is provisionally fully booked, and will be confirmed next month.
1.5 Several members have asked for a weekend charter in August. Is there any more interest in this, and do we have a skipper available?
2. Recent trips
At the May meeting Ian Collins gave an unusual report on a narrow-boat trip to Llangollen, followed by another report on his GSA (Go Sailing Association) ‘skills assessment’ trip. Here are Ian’s reports.
