Future Trips
1.1Gordon Ogden will skipper a midweek sail on the Phoenix YC yacht “Firebird” from Monday morning December 1st to Wednesday 3rd. This replaces the one originally planned for November 17 – 19, and is now fully booked. The cost will be £17 per day, plus food, fuel, mooring. No advance payment is needed as the skipper collects all payments on the day to forward to Phoenix.
1.2Gordon will skipper another midweek Solent trip, this time aboard “Spellbinder”, from Sunday evening December 14th to Wednesday 17th. This is also fully booked, will cost £17 per day, with no advance payment needed.
1.3Alan Howells is proposing a true “winter warmer” weekend sail from Plymouth on December 12th – 14th. The intention, weather permitting, is to sail overnight on Friday to Falmouth, up to Fowey on Saturday, then back to Plymouth on Sunday. The boat would have heating, giving warmth below for those off-watch during the passage and in port. Will anyone interested please contact Alan, tel. 0117 944 2618.
2.Announcements
2.1Membership renewal. A renewal form was sent last month to all whose membership expired on October 31st, asking for a reply by the meeting on November 10th. As of late November just over half the membership has responded. If you have not yet done so, please return the form, with contact details updated if necessary, with your payment to the Treasurer, Mrs J R Jenkyn, Edgecliff, 12 Marine Parade, Clevedon, Bristol, BS21 7QS. It would be helpful if those who do not intend to rejoin could let me know, either by phone or email, to save unnecessary sending of information.
2.2The meeting on January 12th will be a social evening, with jazz band and buffet. To help defray the cost of the band we are asking for payment of £3 per person, payable on the night. Members’ partners and families are welcome as guests.
3.Recent Trips
A summary of all trips reported at meetings is given here, or a full report, if available. Members reporting at a meeting are reminded that a full version of the report should be provided, either written or emailed. If this isn’t available, then only a short summary will be given in the newsletter. Full reports will be included in the next newsletter following receipt.
At the October meeting we had two reports. Jon Wood reported on a midweek trip from Plymouth on 19 – 22 October, skippered by Gordon Ogden, and Phil Steele gave a report of a charter from the Hamble he skippered on the weekend of October 24/26. These reports follow. There is also a brief note by Bernard Smyth, sailing with Dave Price’s “Buoys’ Club” in Turkey.
