Future Trips

1.1Chris Watts will skipper a midweek trip on “Spellbinder” on Monday December 6th – Wednesday 8th. (This is listed, very appropriately as it turns out, on the PYC bookings calendar as “BSA Winter Warmer”!) This is fully booked.

1.2Phil Steele is repeating last year’s “Xmas Lights” trip on the weekend of December 10th – 12th, this time from Falmouth. This is now fully booked, and details have been sent to all going.

1.32011 Med charters. Some months ago several members expressed interest in a charter in the eastern Mediterranean – Croatia or Turkey – some time between May 27th and June 24th. Phil Steele said he might be available as skipper. Since then some confusion has arisen as to the date, location, and members’ availability, and Bob Hayes has been trying to sort it out. The present position as I understand it (and please correct me if I’m wrong) is:

Phil will be sailing on another charter on May 21 - 28 in Turkey, and is no longer available to skipper a Med trip in late May. Phil says, however, that he is willing to skipper another trip to the eastern Med provided there is at least a week between the two trips.

Meanwhile, of the six members who originally wanted a Med trip, one can’t manage June and would like to go to Croatia in late summer or early autumn. The other five would like to go in the week of 11 – 18 June, to either Greece or Croatia, and Phil can skipper this. All are happy to go to Greece, but some would prefer Croatia. Bob will now look at availability etc.

1.4Phil was hoping to skipper the PYC yacht Firebird on the weekend of January 22/23, but Firebird is now up for sale. PYC still has Phil’s booking for this date, and it may take place with their new boat to replace Firebird, a Westerly Oceanquest “Quartet”. If so, there are three spaces available for BSA members.

1.5There may be a two-boat trip using both PYC yachts during February, skippered by Phil and Gordon. This, with dates, will be, announced at the meeting on December 13th.

Announcements

2.1Membership renewal

A membership renewal form was included with the last newsletter, posted to all members whose membership expired on October 31st. About two thirds of the members have renewed, which means that subscriptions are overdue from the remaining third of you. Please bring your form with payment to the meeting on December 13th, or send it to the Treasurer, Mrs J R Jenkyn, Edgecliff, 12 Marine Parade, Clevedon, Bristol, BS21 7QS. It would be very helpful if those who do not wish to rejoin phone or email me to say so (0117 973 8855, jockplayle3@waitrose.com)

January Social Evening Our meeting on Monday January 10th will be our annual social evening, with a buffet, music and a raffle – all free! Let us hope that this year the weather will allow us to hold it.

2.3Have you lost a diary? Gordon found a 2011 diary on a table after our meeting on November 8th. Let me know if it is yours so that Gordon can return it.

3.Recent Trips

A summary of all trips reported at meetings is given here, or a full report, if available. Members reporting at a meeting are reminded that a full version of the report should be provided, either written or emailed. If this isn’t available, then only a short summary will be given in the newsletter. Full reports will be included in the next newsletter following receipt.

At the November meeting Dave Lloyd reported on a weekend trip from Hamble he skippered on October 15 – 17. Two weeks later Bryan Thomas skippered the same boat for a weekend, and as Bryan’s report wasn’t yet available Kath Liddiard gave an impromptu report. Dave’s report follows, after one by Sharon Scurlock from last month’s meeting, on the boat skippered by Alan Howells as part of the three-boat charter from Plymouth – this is the one which sailed on the Friday evening to Falmouth.
