The cancellation of the meeting due to be held on September 12th was due to builders starting work on “Sabrina” a day earlier than scheduled, which was only discovered by Bristol Cruising Club when some of their members, checking their boats in the bad weather, noticed it just before 7 pm. They found that there was no lighting on board, the toilets had been stripped out, and the boat filled with rubble. By then it was too late to warn all members, although most received either an email or phone message in time. We can only apologise to those who travelled some distance to the meeting and had already set out before we were able to contact them. In addition to cancelling the hire charge for Sabrina for September 12th, Bristol Cruising Club has also given us a free day for our October meeting. The committee has decided to use the £30 saved to reimburse as far as possible the petrol costs of those members who had a significant wasted journey.

Future Trips

Jeff Birkin will skipper a trip from Milford Haven on the weekend of October 14 – 16. This will cost £82 per person and there is one place remaining. Will those who have booked please send the £82 fee to the Treasurer (Mrs J R Jenkyn, Edgecliff, 12 Marine Parade, Clevedon, Bristol, BS21 7QS). Will anyone who would like to take the last remaining place please contact Jock, tel 0117 973 8855, email jockplayle3@waitrose.com .

Alan Howells will skipper the GK 29 “Gundulph from Plymouth on the weekend October 21 – 23. This could start on Thursday 20th, but those unable to come that day will still be able to join on Friday 21 at Plymouth. This is fully booked, and full details will be sent to the crew when available.

Gordon Ogden is hoping to arrange a midweek Solent sail on the Phoenix YC boat Spellbinder on October 17 – 19 (boarding on the afternoon/evening of Sunday 16th). Will anyone who would like to join this trip please contact Gordon, tel. 01275 462473, email gofmo18@talktalk.net (although phone would be better at present as Gordon is installing Windows 7 on his PC with the expected uncertainties!).

2.Recent Trips

A summary of all trips reported at meetings is given here, or a full report, if available. Members reporting at a meeting are reminded that a full version of the report should be provided, either written or emailed. If this isn’t available, then only a short summary will be given in the newsletter. Full reports will be included in the next newsletter following receipt.

Since the August meeting some reports have been received which would have been given at the September meeting. These were Naomi Gillingham’s account of a very windy weekend in Plymouth, skippered by Malcolm Price, and two “non-BSA” sailing reports by members – Sue Fowle reporting on a Sunsail racing weekend, and Peter Wakeling on a CSSA cruise in the Baltic which includes the first ever report of sailing in Poland.
