News and Notices
2.1Although the migrant crisis is concentrated in Calais, there are signs it may be spreading to other French Channel ports, and Liberty Yachts suggest that boats returning from France should ensure that spaces such as cockpit and anchor lockers are free of stowaways.
2.2Christmas Meal.
For the past 2 or 3 years we have had our Christmas meal at the Avon Gorge Hotel. This year their Christmas arrangements have changed, at increased cost, but the most unhelpful change is that new parking restrictions mean that parking in the area is not available until after 9 pm.
Gordon Ogden therefore looked at other possible venues. His first choice, which was approved by those at the September meeting, is the Olive Shed, situated on Princes Wharf on the Bristol harbourside, just along from the M-shed museum. An advantage is a large pay-and-display car park just behind it. Gordon has made a booking for TUESDAY DECEMBER 22nd. The Olive Shed has said that they will open exclusively for BSA that evening (providing we have sufficient numbers).
The Olive Shed Christmas menu was sent to members earlier. A choice of either 2 or 3 courses is available. To book a place please inform Gordon, tel. 01275 462473, email gordon.ogden18@gmail.com . Payment will be needed by mid-October, either £25 for the 2-course choice or £30 for 3 courses. (The small extra cost will go towards the service charge.) Please pay by sending a cheque payable Mr G Ogden (NOT to BSA) at 18 The Crescent, Backwell, Bristol, BS48 3NL, or see Gordon at the meeting on October 12th.
3.Recent Trips
At the September meeting there were reports by Alan Howells on a long weekend from Plymouth, which he skippered and by Bob Buchanan on the Holms race from Portishead. Bob also gave Becky Goddard’s report on a short Solent ‘Lady Emma’ cruise. These reports follow.
Chris Watts also gave an account of a week sailing in Greece with Julia and Chris Wallace on board ‘Aremiti’; this has already been distributed, along with Julia’s last report for the year of sailing ‘Aremiti’ in the Aegean, ‘Aremiti in August’.
