Mike Berry

obituary
Mike died after a brave battle with cancer in February, 2014. Mike joined BSA 18 years ago and was one of our active members, sailing on many cruises and races. He was not only a most competent and experienced sailor, but a delightful crew member with a great sense of humour. Those who sailed with him will greatly miss him – you could not wish for a better sailing companion.
Nine of us attended Mike’s funeral on Tuesday March 11, including four of us who sailed with Mike on his first BSA trip in 1997. In his address, Mike’s son, Steve, referred to the important part BSA had played in his father’s life, and photos of Mike sailing with us were included in the collection of scenes from his life at the reception after the funeral. Perhaps Mike’s time with us may be remembered by the last lines of John Masefield’s “Sea Fever”
And all I ask is a merry yarn from a laughing fellow rover,
And quiet sleep and a sweet dream when the long trick's over.
