Trip on Liver Bird starting 2013-06-21 in BSAJuly13
Plymouth to Fowey 21 June to 23 June 2013 – report by Nick Kinsley
Skipper: Malcolm Price. Crew: Jon Wood, David Impey and Nick Kinsley
On Friday 21 June we took over ‘Liver Bird’ which is an Elan Impression 384 built in 2007 II.5 m. The yacht was in excellent condition. We slipped from QAB at 15.30 with wind West 4/5. We had a good sail tacking to Fowey for about 2 hrs but estimated that it would be near 11pm if we continued to sail so we started the motor. We arrived in Fowey at 21.15 and moored to a pontoon on the east side of the river. We ate aboard and listened to the weather forecast which was for westerly 7/8. We also noted that the Fowey – Looe Ferry had been cancelled. The conditions in the morning bore out the forecast so we went ashore to watch the Lions Test and look around the Beer and Oyster Festival.
On Sunday 23 June at 9.35 we slipped to sail for Plymouth with wind WNW 6/7, backing West. We were sailing downwind using only the genoa and reached 8.5 kn, and averaging 6kn surfing most of the time. We reached the Sound at 1300 and took lunch.
It was a relaxed week-end sail in good company.
