Future Trips

1.1Alan Howells will be skippering a long trip requested by some members from June 7th – 25th, from Plymouth to the French Biscay coast. The intention is to sail direct to the Ile de Ré, returning via various ports in south Brittany. This is fully booked. The cost is £578 per person, with the final payment of £478 due by May 6th.

1.2Ian Collins is sailing from Plymouth on one of Plymouth Sailing School’s Bavarias on the weekend of May 21/22. Ian has a full crew, who should contact Ian for all details of joining and paying.

1.3Gordon Ogden will be skippering a charter from La Trinité in south Brittany on June 4 – 10th. This is fully booked, and all initial payments made. Gordon has suggested that the remaining balance of €1540 should be paid as a single payment on May 4th. As before, Gordon will arrange to pay the total to CFC by bank transfer and will then advise the sterling payment due by each of the crew, who should then pay this to BSA (probably about £255).

1.4Several members have asked for a weekend trip in the first half of July. Is any skipper available to take this?

2.News and Notices

2.1First Aid

Those members who gained their RYA First Aid at Sea certificates at our last training session in 2013 will need to renew them by May 26th this year. We will repeat the arrangement with Brian Howell, who carried out the session on board Sabrina in 2013, on Sunday May 15th. The cost will again be just £25, compared to the commercial rate of about £75. The course will start at 10.00 am until about 4.00 pm. The £25 will be payable on the day. Those going may wish to bring something for lunch; from previous experience lunch availability near Sabrina on a Sunday is limited.

2.2Calling for help presentation

At the next meeting on May 9th we are expecting just one trip report. After this Jock will give a RNLI presentation on ‘Calling for Help’. There will be samples of about 20 different pieces of appropriate safety equipment on display, ranging from a whistle costing 50p to the latest satellite communication devices. You will be given an emergency scenario and asked to rate each item as useful, not relevant, or ‘more information needed’, then we will briefly discuss each item.

3.Recent Trips

At the March meeting Don Hirst gave a report of a long weekend trip from Plymouth skippered by Alan Howells on March 17 – 20. This was followed by Ian Collins’ report of ‘Easter with Katie’ – Katie being the storm which hit the UK over Easter. Jeff Birkin then joined the boat and reported on the return to Plymouth with further trials of Oscar Line.

Here are these reports:
