Wendy Parker, Carol Watson, and Xavier Uldry who came as guests in September have joined BSA, and were welcomed as new members at the meeting on October 12th. We also welcomed Julia and Chris Wallace on their return from their round – Britain voyage, and extracted a promise from them that they will give a talk about it in the new year.

Future Trips

1.1Following Alan Howells’ charter of a GK 29 from Plymouth for training and boat-handling practice some members asked for a repeat on the same boat. This will take place on October 29 (Thursday evening) to Sunday 1st November, and is fully booked and paid. Alan will contact those going to arrange transport and meeting at Saltash. This type of trip will be repeated next year according to demand.

1.2Gordon Ogden will skipper a midweek Solent trip on the Phoenix YC yacht “Spellbinder” on November 2-4. All places were booked at the September meeting. No advance deposit is required, and those going should pay Gordon the fees of £20 per day while on the boat, which he will forward to PYC.

1.3Bryan Thomas will skipper a Solent charter from Hamble on November 20 – 22. This is fully booked, and those going are asked to send the full cost of £105.50 per person to the Treasurer, Mrs J R Jenkyn, Edgecliff, 12 Marine Parade, Clevedon, Bristol BS21 7QS.

1.4Phil Steele will skipper a “Xmas Lights” trip on the weekend of December 19/20, from Plymouth to either Fowey or Dartmouth. This is fully booked. The balance payment of £38 will be due on November 13th.

2.Announcements

2.1Membership renewal. A membership renewal form is included with this newsletter, or sent separately to those who receive the email newsletter, for those whose membership expires on October 31st. Please return this, with contact details updated if necessary, with your payment to the Treasurer, or bring it with you to the next meeting on November 9th.

2.2Due to lack of demand, there will again be no formal Xmas dinner this year. However, like last year, those who would like to get together for an informal meal on the evening of Tuesday December 8th are asked to contact Gordon. This may again be at the Priory, Portbury.

2.3For the past few years our January monthly meeting has been a purely social event. Members at the October meeting voted for this to continue in January, rather than December. This will be on January 11th with a free buffet and raffle. We will not have a band this year.

3.Recent Trips

A summary of all trips reported at meetings is given here, or a full report, if available. Members reporting at a meeting are reminded that a full version of the report should be provided, either written or emailed. If this isn’t available, then only a short summary will be given in the newsletter. Full reports will be included in the next newsletter following receipt.

At the October meeting the reports were by Ian Harding on a weekend trip from Falmouth skippered by Phil Steele, and by Bryan Thomas on a charter he skippered in Croatia.

We have also now received the final log “Aremiti in September and October” from Julia and Chris Wallace of their round-Britain sail. This has already been sent to email recipients of the newsletter and is included in the posted version with the others which follow.
