Future Trips

One member intends to take his Yachtmaster exam in October and others have said they would like to crew for the preparation for this. Alan Howells will skipper the pre-exam preparation (as he did for two members who were successful in their Coastal Skipper exam a few years ago) and will sail the GK29 from Plymouth for this. It will be around the weekend of October 18 – 22 with practice on Thursday to Sunday and the exam on Sunday evening and Monday. This is fully crewed. The boat is booked, and full payment is now due, (either by cheque to the Treasurer, Mrs J R Jenkyn, Edgecliff, 12 Marine Parade, Clevedon, BS21 7QS, or by bank transfer to the account of Bristol Sailing Association at Barclays Bank, account number 40853062, sort code 20-13-34. If you pay by bank transfer please email the treasurer (janejenkyn@blueyonder.co.uk ) to advise her.

Dave Lloyd will skipper a Solent trip on the weekend of October 26 – 28. This is fully booked and will cost £112.50 per person. We have booked a boat from Hamble Point; as this charter is just 4 weeks away the full charter fee has been paid. Will those who booked please now pay their full fee of £112.50, payment details in 1.1 above.

Phil Steele has booked a midweek trip on the PYC yacht Quartette on Monday November 5th – Wednesday 7th. Will anyone interested please let us know. This will cost £60.

Phil has also said he will attempt another ‘Xmas Lights’ trip in December (not the weekend of the 8/9th). If a charter from Falmouth is not available this year it could be in the Solent. Will anyone interested please let us know.

2.Recent Trips

At the September meeting Kath Liddiard gave her report on her Round the Island Race held over from the previous meeting, and another report of a recent sail with Rhian from Royal Clarence marina in Gosport. These reports will be in a later newsletter; the report below is Bob Buchanan’s on a long weekend sail on ‘Lady Emma’.

3.News and notices

3.1Xmas Dinner

Following last year's very successful Xmas meal at the Avon Gorge Hotel in Bristol we have decided to repeat it this year. A booking has been made for the evening of Tuesday December 18th. The cost will be £20 per person, with a similar menu to last year. Over thirty members have booked, and Avon Gorge have advised that they may be able to accommodate a few later additions, but this is not guaranteed.Gordon Ogden is organising the booking. If anyone else wishes to go, please contact Gordon tel. 01275 462473, and he will advise if a booking is still possible.

3.2BSA Rules

Following some misunderstandings this year which have led to the club losing money on some charters we intend to clarify the rules for booking and paying. It had been hoped that the revised rules could be included in the AGM on October 8th, but the committee has not quite finalised the revision, which will be put to the meeting on November 12th for approval.
